Mandarin High School is a public senior high school in Duval County Public Schools district located on Greenland Road in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2010, Newsweek ranked it 96th on its list of the best public high schools in the United States.[1] In 2008, U.S. News & World Report ranked it as the 15th of "America's Best High Schools".[2]

Demographics

Mandarin High School is considered to be a new school for the County of Duval in Jacksonville, Florida; this school has a "sister school" named First Coast High School which shares similar history and ranking status in terms of academic levels in the region.

Mandarin High School enrolls students, not only from the Mandarin Area but from around Duval. As of 2010, Mandarin High School is the second largest high school in the Duval County following Sandalwood High School; there had to be a new school called, Atlantic Coast High School that had to be opened for the 2010-2011 School Year to lower the enrollment at both Mandarin and Sandalwood High School.[3]

Academics

Mandarin High School offers the Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program along with Advanced Placement[4]

Athletics

Mandarin High School offers a variety of different sports; the sports at Mandarin High School run for three sports seasons: Fall, Winter, or Spring, excluding cheer leading which is year-round sport at Mandarin High School. The Athletics Director is Tammie Talley.[5] Mandarin High School has an outdoor pool which is used by the athletic teams and for those in physical education classes during the academic year; the pool is available for available as a neighborhood pool it operated by the City of Jacksonville Parks & Recreation Department during the summer months.[6]
